TAQA has a Legal - Summer Student vacancy in the Aberdeen office.
Role Duration - 12 weeks contract - Commencing June 2026.
Reporting to - Legal Lead (Upstream)
This position will be employed on contractor basis via an employment agency.

Compressed Working Week (CWW)
TAQA offers onshore employees and contractors a Compressed Working Week (CWW) in order to help achieve a healthy work-life balance. The CWW is an arrangement where employees and contractors work a standard two-week work period (10 days) over a compressed period of 9 working days i.e. employees contracted to work 37.5 hours per week will work 75 hours over 9 days (instead of 10 days). The 10th day in the second week of the CWW period is known as 'Flex Friday', a non-working day.
BASIC PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
As a placement student within the TAQA’s Legal function, the role provides practical exposure to upstream oil & gas legal work, supporting both operational, decommissioning and corporate matters. The role is designed to build capability in legal research, contract review, regulatory understanding, and cross‑functional collaboration over a structured 12-week placement. The placement provides meaningful involvement in live legal matters across TAQA UK’s operational, regulatory, and decommissioning activities, offering the student practical experience in delivering legal support within a fast-paced commercial environment.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Legal Research & Advisory Support
- Conduct targeted legal research on matters relating to UK upstream oil & gas, including regulatory compliance, decommissioning, and commercial obligations.
- Research and reporting of legal and regulatory developments relevant to TAQA’s UKCS operations.
- Prepare concise research notes, summaries, and briefing papers to support TAQA’s Legal team and internal clients.
Matter & Documentation Management
- Support the organisation, filing, and retrieval of legal documents in accordance with TAQA’s document control standards.
- Assist with the review and obligation tracking of existing agreements.
- Cataloguing and organisation of agreement and document databases.
- Assist with preparing matter summaries, status reports, and trackers to support the team’s workflow planning.
Contract Review & Stakeholder Coordination
- Support the Legal team in reviewing and drafting various commercial agreements.
- Prepare draft clauses, comparison tables, and mark‑ups under lawyer supervision.
- Develop meeting materials such as slide decks, briefing notes, and action trackers.
Governance & Compliance Activities
- Support ethics and compliance and data protection activities, such as internal policy reviews.
- Assist in maintaining registers including litigation/claims tracking, contract summaries, and legal obligations tracking.
DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES
- A wide range of upstream oil & gas legal work, including operational support, decommissioning, and commercial transactions.
