TAQA North is seeking a Senior Process Safety Engineer to join our Process Safety Team, reporting to the Manager, Operational Engineering & Process Safety. This role is accountable for safeguarding the integrity of TAQA North’s operating assets by ensuring compliance with regulatory, corporate, and internal process safety standards across the portfolio. Working in close partnership with Operations, Engineering, and Corporate stakeholders, the Senior Process Safety Engineer will play a key role in strengthening process safety culture, driving risk reduction, and enabling continuous improvement in safety performance. Based in Calgary, this position includes regular field engagement at TAQA’s operating sites across Alberta. The ideal candidate is a collaborative safety leader with a strong focus on operational excellence, proactive risk management, and effective stakeholder engagement, who can help advance the organization’s long‑term process safety strategy.

Your Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain TAQA North’s Process Safety Management (PSM) program, ensuring alignment with regulatory, global process safety best practices, and internal requirements.
• Serve as a trusted process safety advisor to senior leadership, providing governance, performance insights, and strategic direction.
• Chair and guide the PSM Steering Committee (PSMCo), driving accountability and continuous improvement across the organization.
• Establish and monitor process safety performance indicators, trends, and reporting to proactively identify risks and improvement opportunities.
• Champion high‑quality incident classification, investigation, and root cause analysis, embedding lessons learned into operations and engineering practices.
• Support process hazard assessments (PHAs) and corporate process safety initiatives.
• Champion process safety studies and analyses, including HAZOPs, LOPA, What-Ifs, Bowties, and MAH/SCE identification.
• Conduct and/or support risk assessments to identify potential hazards and implement preventative controls.
• Conduct facility inspections and audits to verify process safety information (PSI) accuracy and availability, car-seal and override management, alarm/callout consistency, ESD function testing, pre-startup safety reviews (PSSRs), and related assurance activities.
• Oversee TAQA North’s Management of Change (MOC) process to ensure effective risk review, documentation, and implementation.
• Lead the development and implementation of TAQA North’s management of safety-critical equipment (SCE) program.
• Build organizational capability through training, coaching, and mentoring in process safety principles and best practices.
• Partner closely with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, HSSE, and Corporate teams to embed process safety into everyday decision‑making and execution.
• Ensure emergency response systems, policies, and procedures are in place and reflect process safety risks.

Your Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering and an active P. Eng designation in good standing with APEGA.
• Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation is considered an asset.
• Minimum of 10 years of relevant HSE experience, including specialization in PSM.
• Strong understanding of provincial OH&S, WCB, Alberta Environment and Protected Areas (AEP), and other applicable regulatory requirements.
• Familiarity with process safety standards and industry practices (e.g., CSA Z767, EI, CCPS).
• Experience in technical and/or operations engineering roles, collaborating with multiple stakeholders across Operations and HSSE.
• Strong technical capability and functional understanding of the design and safe operation of conventional oil and gas production and processing facilities.
• Demonstrated experience facilitating and executing process hazard analyses.
• Experience conducting root cause analyses and incident investigations.
• Excellent organizational, stakeholder management, communication, and presentation skills.
• Proficiency with HSE-related software, systems, and reporting tools.
• Legally authorized to work in Canada, with ability to travel within Alberta as required
• Ability to provide three satisfactory professional references and successfully pass a criminal background check.
