HSSE Superintendent

We are searching for an HSSE Superintendent, reporting to the Manager, Health, Safety, Security and Environment - Operations. This role is integral to supporting field Operations, Facilities, Construction, Well Servicing, and Drilling & Completions in the implementation of TAQA North’s HSSE Management Standards. The successful candidate will serve as a champion of the HSSE Management System, actively contributing to the development of policies and practices that advance corporate HSSE objectives. A key responsibility will be leading incident investigations and conducting root cause analyses to prevent recurrence, while ensuring corrective actions are initiated and completed.
This position is based in our Grande Prairie office and requires regular travel to field locations. A company vehicle will be provided. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends, as well as the ability to respond to emergencies on a 24/7 basis, is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Promote and ensure consistent application of TAQA North’s HSSE Management System across field operations.
- Lead emergency response initiatives in the North region.
- Facilitate regular and effective HSSE communications within North field operations and across the organization.
- Collaborate with the broader HSSE team to share best practices and contribute to the development of standards.
- Maintain constructive relationships with regulatory agencies as required.
- Engage with contractors to ensure their HSSE systems align with TAQA North’s standards and are effectively implemented.
- Support safety meetings and initiatives.
- Assist in the development, communication, and training of safe job procedures and codes of practice.
- Provide support in managing worker injuries, modified work programs, and WCB claims.
- Administer and analyze HSSE safety reports, trends, and follow-up actions.
- Monitor near misses and incidents, supporting operational leaders in appropriate response measures.
- Conduct field-based assurance activities, inspections, and observations; provide coaching as needed.
- Lead incident investigations using recognized industry methodologies.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 10 years of direct Oil & Gas experience with a focus in Health, Safety, and Emergency Management, including Incident Command System experience.
- Occupational Health & Safety certificate or diploma is considered an asset.
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation preferred.
- Comprehensive understanding of oil and gas operations, including sour gas, facilities, construction, well servicing, and drilling & completions.
- Proficiency in HSSE management systems.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, across all organizational levels.
- Excellent organizational and time management capabilities.
- In-depth knowledge of OH&S and AER regulatory frameworks.
- Valid safety certifications and a Class 5 driver’s license with ability to provide clean drivers abstract.
- Practical experience in incident investigation and root cause analysis.
- Advanced computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
- This role is based in Grande Prairie with regular field travel.
- Ability to work on-call and respond to emergencies after hours.
- Compliance with the Company’s drug and alcohol policy including pre-employment screening.
- Ability to provide three satisfactory professional references and complete a satisfactory criminal background check.
