We are searching for an eager Joint Venture Accountant Summer Student.   You will work with both our Operated and non-operated Joint Venture teams, supporting the completion of entries for financial cycles. You will gain valuable experience by being exposed to Joint Venture Accounting, along with exposure to Accounts Payable.  Your time with us will help you to gain a better understanding of how Joint Venture Accounting roles function within an oil and gas producer.    

This is a summer student position based out of Calgary, working from our office 5 days per week. This position is full-time from May to August 2027.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the administration of both operated (accounts receivable) and non-operated (accounts payable) joint venture billings.
  • Review joint venture agreements, billings, volumes, and fees to ensure charges are accurate and aligned with contractual terms.
  • Research, analyze, and resolve billing and accounting issues in collaboration with cross-functional teams, including Land, Operations, Master Data, Production Accounting and Joint Venture team.
  • Communicate with partner contacts to address payment inquiries, resolve discrepancies, and support dispute resolution
  • Assist with the review and processing of monthly joint venture partner settlements and payments.
  • Support accounts payable by processing incoming invoices
  • Book cash receipts by coding incoming payments for operated joint venture billings and miscellaneous payments.
  • Prepare and process journal entries and other accounting adjustments as required.
  • Gain exposure to the full lifecycle of oil and gas assets by supporting the review of capital and operating costs associated with both Operated and Non-Operated joint interest billings.
  • Utilize systems such as Qbyte, OpenInvoice, EnergyLink, CS Explorer, Execute, Petrinex, and AccuMap to investigate issues, manage workflows, and support accounting activities.

  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate professionally with a variety of stakeholders
  • Proven ability to adapt to changing priorities, deadlines, and business needs in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrate initiative, accountability, and ownership of work, with a strong focus on delivering high-quality results
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Prior internship, co-op, volunteer, customer service, or relevant work experience is considered an asset
  • Experience working on academic, extracurricular, or community projects demonstrating leadership, teamwork, and initiative is considered an asset

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate bachelor’s degree program, preferably in accounting or finance or a related degree program
  • Must be returning to full-time studies upon completion of the work term
  • Must attach your most recent unofficial or official transcript with your application to be considered
  • Available to work full-time in our Calgary office for the duration of the 4-month work term
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
  • The successful candidate will be required to provide satisfactory references and pass a criminal background check
