Job Title: Senior Land Negotiator - RQ 22–65

Reporting to the Manager, Mineral Land, TAQA North is looking for a Senior Land Negotiator to play a lead role in helping create strategic plans for portfolio optimization.  This role is responsible to deliver value added activities that support Asset Team development plans and Mineral Land key performance indicators. 

As a part of this challenging role your specific responsibilities will be to:

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Drive strategy and decision-making with Asset Teams through creative deal-making that supports the execution of development plans, including but not limited to asset exchanges, acquisitions, dispositions, pooling agreements, joint operating and farmout agreements
  • Collaborate with Asset Teams, Mineral Land, Legal, Joint Ventures, Accounting and Marketing to ensure that all contractual terms and conditions fully protect TAQA North
  • Collaborate with Asset Teams and Mineral Land respecting the continuation and maintenance of Crown and Freehold mineral rights
  • Develop and manage freehold acquisition and leasing strategies that support Asset Team development plans
  • Develop freehold land acquisition strategies and strategies to post and acquire Crown Sale parcels
  • Pursue third party mineral lease-out initiatives to maximize value on TAQA North fee title lands
  • Develop strong business relationships with external stakeholders including regulatory bodies, industry associations and industry counterparts
  • Monitor obligations/commitment dates/expiry dates of mineral rights and land agreements
  • Participate in the development, maintenance and approval of Mineral Land policies, procedures, contract precedents and the review and adoption of industry (CALEP/PASC) drafted documents

The Successful Candidate will possess:

  • Minimum 10 years experience in all facets of land and land negotiations
  • Bachelor of Commerce with a concentration in Petroleum Land Management or comparable combination of education and experience
  • Expert understanding of Operating Procedures, Land Agreements, Title Documentation, Mineral Tenure and Spacing Unit Regulations
  • Experienced user of CS Land, Accumap, Microsoft Powerpoint, Excel and Word and similar applications
  • Member of CALEP with an extensive industry network
  • Demonstration of strong commercial acumen, collaboration and negotiation skills
