We are searching for a Senior Drilling Engineer. Reporting to the Manager, Drilling and Completions, you would be accountable for all engineering activity throughout the planning, program generation and execution stages of the drilling program. As part of the D&C team you will deliver engineering design, program preparation and daily operational support for drilling activity. Working with multi-disciplinary teams, you will ensure engineering design work and drilling programs are prepared to meet the forward rig schedule.
You will support and interface with the Drilling Operations Superintendent and TAQA North Asset Teams, and work closely with Completions, support functions (i.e. Supply Chain Management), external suppliers, and regulatory bodies as required.
Your Key Responsibilities:
- Work with Asset Team members (exploitation, reservoir, geologists, completions, land, etc) in the development of key projects. Conduct appropriate offset research and prepare scoping and AFE quality drilling cost estimates as required.
- Provide operational updates, communicate success and challenges, make recommendations on operations.
- Spearhead and oversee all aspects of wellbore design, including (but not limited to) casing design, directional planning and collision avoidance, drilling fluid selection, cement design, wellhead selection, hydraulics, bit and BHA selection.
- In collaboration with Drilling Operations Superintendent, define drilling rig specifications and requirements.
- Review new technology and recommend opportunities for advancement.
- Provide necessary regulatory planning and input, including support for ERP submissions and well license applications. Write Drilling programs for use in the field.
- Provide daily surveillance for active drilling operations, both operated and non-operated. Review daily reports, attend rig calls and operational meetings, monitor project costs and provide support to the Drilling Operations Superintendent as required. Provide Engineering support for unique, complex or critical operations.
- Capture key learnings/issues during execution as appropriate. Conduct post well reviews documenting learnings and opportunities for improvements.
- Assist supply chain management in supplier technical evaluation and contract development / management.
- Provide coverage and support for superintendent as required.
- Be a safety leader. Work with safety and participate in ERP exercises, as required.
- Benchmark performance and Key performance indicators. Report successes and challenges and options to improve.
Your Qualifications:
- Minimum 12 years’ experience in Drilling Engineering experience in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin
- Must have experience with high angle and horizontal drilling.
- Experience with software such as Landmark, Wellview, and Accumap (among others) is required.
- A Professional Engineer (P.Eng) or Professional Technologist (P.Tech) designation.
- Demonstrated skills in project management, communication, organization and time management.
