Joint Venture Accountant -Operated

TAQA North is currently searching for an entry level Joint Venture Accountant-Operated to join the finance team in our downtown Calgary office. Reporting directly to the Supervisor, Operated Joint Venture Accounting, this role is responsible is to ensure the prompt collection of Joint Interest Billings sent to TAQA’s partners. The successful candidate will play a key role in strengthening partner relationships, supporting accurate billing and cash collections, and working collaboratively across teams to resolve issues and maintain the integrity of joint venture accounts.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee partner billing and accounts receivable for assigned operated joint venture partners, acting as the primary point of contact
- Respond to partner inquiries and information requests through EnergyLink in a timely and professional manner
- Lead collection activities for JV accounts, including monitoring aging, identifying risks, and escalating delinquent balances
- Validate billing charges and calculate net payable/receivable positions for monthly settlement cycles
- Coordinate monthly joint venture payment runs in collaboration with Non-Operated JV Accounting
- Maintain strong partner relationships through proactive communication on account status, payments, and dispute resolution
- Prepare and issue partner correspondence, including statements and demand letters where required
- Collaborate with Land, Legal, and Joint Venture teams to support escalation and recovery actions for outstanding accounts
- Prepare journal entries in Qbyte, including balance releases and correcting entries
- Utilize AR Subledger, CS Explorer, and related systems to prioritize, track, and resolve disputes
- Partner with cross-functional teams (Land, Operations, Production Accounting, Master Data, and Non-Op Accounting) to investigate disputes and resolve discrepancies
- Produce regular and ad hoc reporting to monitor collections performance and highlight potential risks
- Process and apply incoming cash receipts accurately and within established timelines
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 1–5 years of relevant experience in accounting or accounts receivable (internships/co-ops considered)
- Strong understanding of accounting principles with sound analytical skills and attention to detail
- Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across internal teams and interact with external partners
- Ability to interpret agreements and identify key obligations, risks, and remedies
- Working knowledge of PASC and PJVA agreements is an asset
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- Experience with Qbyte, EnergyLink (including AR Subledger), CS Land, or Accumap is an asset
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
- Ability to provide three satisfactory professional references and complete a satisfactory criminal background check.
