TAQA North is seeking a Production Engineer to join our Calgary corporate office, where they will report directly to the Asset Manager (Montney region). The successful candidate will be assigned technical responsibility for oil and gas properties within a geographic area. Working closely with a team of professionals, the Production Engineer will provide technical support to the Asset Team and field operating staff on the design, implementation, and operation of wells, gathering systems and production facilities. As a member of the team, you initiate action, conduct field operations, and monitor performance to ensure that budgeted cash flow is maintained, and net present value is maximized.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work within a Team of Engineers/Technologists (Production, Reservoir, Exploitation) and Geoscientists (Geology, Geophysics).
  • Work closely with the area Field Operations and Tech staff to maximize production and minimize costs.
  • Work with Production Accountants to ensure proper production measurement and allocation.
  • Work with a Property Analyst to monitor costs, enhance fees and improve area profitability.
  • Obtain advice and input as required from other departments (Marketing, JV, Land, etc.).
  • Work closely with the Field Operations and tech staff to proactively optimize wells, gathering systems and facilities. Develops and maintains good working relationship with field staff; visits the field regularly.
  • Initiate & drives activities to reduce operating costs and improve efficiencies.
  • Initiate & drives workovers and facility modifications to optimize production.
  • Track results of workovers and well optimization projects including dollars spent and production impact.
  • Conceive, implement and actively manage capital projects which add value to the property.
  • Ensure projects are safely completed on time and within budget.
  • Develop production forecast and operating budgets for the property consistent with the area development plan and the capital budget.
  • Coordinate property reviews to identify optimization projects.
  • Assist in the review of reserves assigned to the property to ensure proper recognition and valuation.
  • When required, assists in the evaluation of potential acquisitions/divestitures by identifying upside.

Qualifications:

  • 5-10 years experience in oil and gas engineering in Western Canada; prior experience working onsite at a field operating location is considered an asset. Previous Montney experience would be beneficial.
  • Professional Engineering designation (P.Eng. with APEGA) required.
  • Experience working in both sweet and sour oil and gas production environments.
  • Excellent knowledge of gathering systems and gas compression facilities.
  • Experienced in downhole work with a good knowledge of artificial lift systems.
  • Ideal suite of computer skills:  Excel, Accumap, WellView, Avocet or Prodview, PowerBI
  • Exposure to ValNav, PEEP, Piper would be advantageous.
  • Well organized, self-motivated, good effective time manager.
  • Ability to work independently, initiate & drive projects and set priorities.
  • Proven track record of good relationship building & communications with field staff and peers.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • This role is based in Calgary with regular field travel (approximately 5-10%).
  • Ability to provide three satisfactory professional references and complete a satisfactory criminal background check.
